I recently listened to the audiobook "The Brothers Ashkenazi", which was originally written in Yiddish. In one section I.J.Singer the author tells about a terrible massacre in the city of Lemberg, Galicia. He writes, "When the Craocuses arrived and drove off the Ukranians, the were offered the Jewish quarter as a prize."
You can read the full paragraph here: http://books.google.com/books?id=CSIk09nDaXsC&;pg=PT672&lpg=PT672v=onepage&q&f=false
My question is, "Whho we're the Crocuses?" I did a Google search using many filters but could not find any reference to that term. I wonder whether an error was made in the translation. I would appreciate any advice.
Thanks,
Darryl
